Interesting, as most people at the time were more apt to think that Wayne's World was a rip-off of Bill & Ted! By all accounts it seems neither was a rip-off of the other, that both sets of characters were created independently and the creators of both insist they had no knowledge of the other. Ed and Chris created Bill & Ted years before the Excellent Adventure movie script was written, performing them as part of a comedy group in the Los Angeles area. Excellent Adventure was filmed in 1987, two years before it was finally released. I just looked up some info on a Saturday Night Live website and oddly enough it lists Wayne and Garth's debut episode as possibly being in February 1989, which was the *same* month Excellent Adventure was released! Mike Meyers likely developed the characters of Wayne and Garth in advance of Saturday Night Live as well. But I'm fairly sure Bill & Ted became hugely popular *before* Wayne and Garth really caught fire, and Wayne's World wasn't released until 1992. But hey, they're all great characters, huh? Excellent!!!!
