A Totally Excellent and Appropriate
Soundboard App for All Bill & Ted Fans!

In this age of portable media, how does one go about sharing their love of the Two Great Ones while out and about?  The excellent personages at Widebeam Digital have now solved that problem for us by offering the first, most outstanding and totally official Bill & Ted Soundboard Application for your iPhone, iPhone Touch and iPad!  The app includes many outstanding photos in the form of wallpapers which you can use on your devices!  There are also some of the most popular phrases from the movies spoken by Bill, Ted and Rufus which you can play to your heart's content!  Also available are ringtones which you can get by typing in your e-mail address (not that these are apparently catchphrases from the movies and do not include any of the music, unfortunately.)  But the most outstanding feature by far has to be the Wyld Stallyns air guitar (well, actually more like a real guitar, but obviously fans will use it in place of their regular air guitar for more oomph!) which allows you to strum out a vigorous joyous number of electric guitar sounds, presumably just after uttering an exuberant "Excellent!"  It's not an extensive application, but for 99 cents (that's 99 Lincolns, dude!) it certainly is a must for any Wyld Stallyns fan who wants to share the love of their favorite movie (keep in mind that all the images and quotes are from Excellent Adventure, but maybe if the app is popular enough the dudes at Widebeam would consider giving us a Bogus Journey app as well, which would be most triumphant indeed!)

MTV Gets the Word from Alex About B&T 3 Script!

Following on the heels of their big scoop on Keanu's apparent eagerness for there to be a third Bill & Ted movie earlier this week, MTV decided it was time to hear from the other half of the team and so they contacted Alex Winter (via Twitter, apparently) for further confirmation.  Alex apparently told the music video news outlet's reporter Adam Rosenberg that the truth is yes, there is indeed a third Bill & Ted script in the works!  Alex is quoted in the report: "We kicked around the idea over the years and had always thought if we could make something that was as kind of genuine in spirit as the originals and without falling prey to kind of retro cynicism or something that was unnecessary, it would be worth doing.  Now the cat's out of the bag, and the truth is that, yeah, we have finally hit upon an idea that we think is pretty great.

"We've been working on it for the past couple of years, honing that idea and getting it into shape," he continued.  "[Screenwriters Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon] are working on it now.  The bottom line is that we still all feel like we need to sit down and look at a script and see if it's everything that it can be before we set about doing anything with it."  What should be of comfort to B&T fans is Alex went on to emphasize that the movie won't be cynical.  "The essence of what we've always wanted to do is to make a 'Bill & Ted' movie.  We don't want to make a cynical 'here's Bill and Ted ? you guys are our kids, now YOU guys go be Bill and Ted and the franchise can live for another 25 years!'  It's not that.  It's a straight up, what's the funniest and most surprising take on where Bill and Ted would be right now if we stopped back in on them?  That's what we're doing."

Alex also addressed the issue of how they would handle the loss of George Carlin as Rufus.  He expressed that getting around it has been difficult, but assured the reporter that they will not just be replacing Rufus.  "That would be horrible.  That's the thing about the movies ? they're personality-based.  It's Reeves' personality when he's doing comedy, it's my personality and it was George's personality.  It doesn't really work when you're pretending that other people are those people, because there's just not that much there [otherwise].  No, we're definitely not going to recast Rufus."

Alex said that he'd prefer the movie happen sooner rather than later, and of course fans would like that, too!  But while this is definitely the most viable and promising news we have heard about a third movie so far, fans must keep in mind that an actual film is still some ways off.  The script will need to be completed and agreed upon by everyone, backing will need to be found, everyone's schedules have to be open at the same time.  But with a really good script from Ed and Chris fueling the fire, perhaps at long last we WILL see a legitimate, "straight-up" third Bill and Ted movie with Alex, Keanu, Ed and Chris firmly at the reins, which is what we've been hoping for all along!

Excellent Adventures with The Sequelcast!

We were very excited when Uncle Milkshake of The Sequelcast, a podcast which takes a look at various movie series, contacted us to let us know they would be featuring Bill & Ted on their most outstanding show!  Linda Kay joined Uncle Milkshake, Abraham Lincoln and Thrasher for a most outstanding talkfest in which they lovingly talked about the first Bill & Ted movie, Excellent Adventure.  The discussion actually went on much longer than anyone expected, and the same was true for the follow up show for Bogus Journey (which we will alert you to when it is posted next!)  Truly when it comes to the Bill & Ted franchise there is much to discuss, so most definitely check out the show!

MTV Gets the Scoop on B&T 3 from Keanu Himself!

Finally!  After all these years of different online and offline reports speculating that the one stumbling block standing in the way of a third Bill & Ted movie was Keanu Reeves' unwillingness to even consider such a project, MTV News has finally flat-out asked Keanu what he thinks about the idea and Keanu shared his opinions about his interest in indeed participating in a third film if Alex Winter, Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson can come up with a vehicle worth doing.  Expanding upon the much-speculated-upon comments Keanu made about a possible third movie on the red carpet at the Oscars earlier this year, MTV reporter Josh Horowitz managed to get Keanu to expand upon the topic during an interview at the Toronto Film Festival.

During the taped verbal exchange, Keanu explained, "We're trying.  Alex and I are still friends and we're talking, and we're talking to Chris and Ed," Reeves said.  "They're going to try and see if they can write something.  To me, I'd love to play the role.  I'd love to work with Alex and Chris and Ed again.  "We'll see what they do.  If it's a film that can stand up on its own ... and I'm meeting people now, they've shown the film to their kids," he added.  "We just seek to entertain, and if that could be something that could be worthwhile, on its own ..."

Only time will tell if the outstanding dudes behind the first two movies can indeed put together a solid script which can bring our favorite dudes into the present, but at least this should finally put to bed any unfounded statements that erroneously lay the blame for the lack of a third movie at Keanu's feet.

Is Bill & Ted up to Swedenborg-style
philosophizing?  Most definitely!

Most fans agree that Bill & Ted are most excellent, but very often that's about as far as the discussions go (not unworthy of the films themselves, which, as you'll recall, explain the phenomenon of time-travel in three words . . . "Modern technology, William!")  But that doesn't mean that a deeper analysis of the movies isn't possible, and fans who happen to be in or around London on October 1st can partake in some most outstanding theological deepness by attending a free screening of Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey being presented as part of The Swedenborg Society's Film Season, the theme of which is Images of the Afterlife in Cinema.  The society honors Emanuel Swedenborg, a noted 18th century Swedish scientist, theologian and philosopher.  Curator (and obvious Bill & Ted admirer) James Wilson has prepared a most insightful essay which will be given to attendees and is guaranteed to give one's brain a chance to ponder some interesting connections between The Two Great Ones and Swedenborg's views on life after death.  For more information, visit the link below!

A Most Unprecedented Event at the New Beverly Cinema
Sadly Sparks Another Bout of Erroneous B&T 3 Rumors

Excellent friends, it has come to our attention that we completely missed out on a most unprecedented event which took place last weekend at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles, California.  The revival movie theater presented special screenings of both Bill & Ted movies, Excellent Adventure and Bogus Journey, on two different days and Alex Winter appeared at both of the screenings.  Alex appeared alone at the first night's screening, then was joined by co-writer Ed Solomon and original Princess Babe Joanna at the second of these showings.  B&T fan Jonathan Newman was lucky enough to be visiting Los Angeles from Texas and was able to attend the first night screening with just Alex.  As Jonathan reports, "The prints were pretty clear.  Bogus Journey was in really good shape.  Alex seems like a real nice guy.  He was very polite.    He also said that before hand he only knew how to play bass guitar."

One thing we simply must address is the sudden flurry of online reports stating, in so many words, that Alex Winter verified during the Q&A that a third Bill & Ted movie was forthcoming pending the approval of the proper script.  This is stretching the truth to quite an extreme, although Jonathan's report of the question regarding a possible third movie might explain some of the confusion; "One question was asked, are they gonna make a part three?  [Alex] said they aren't in any rush to make it, but if the right script came along then definitely."  According to Alex's own Twitter page, "All I said about b&t @newbeverly is me, Keanu, Ed & Chris have kicked ideas around over the years.  Everything else on the net is conjecture."  Alex's statement seems to indicate, quite clearly, what we have reported all along . . . that Alex, Keanu, Ed and Chris and played with ideas for a third B&T pretty much since Bogus Journey finished filming, but that no solid plans for a third movie have ever materialized and may or may not ever come about.  While the online reports may sound promising, once again we have to state that, unfortunately, at this time, there is no third movie in the works!

We are trying to find as much information as we can about this event, and so far we have found some photos which were taken of Julia Marchese and Alex Winter during one night of Q&A on the New Beverly Cinema's Facebook page, as well as one blogger's account of the event.  We would totally love to hear from anyone else who may have been at the screenings to share more information with us about what was discussed!  We'd also like to know if anyone had the foresight to videotape the Q&A sessions for posterity!

Keanu Revisits the Bard and Don John

Every year the Los Angeles Shakespeare Center holds a unique all-star annual reading of a Shakespeare comedy to help raise money for the organization.  This year the production was Much Ado About Nothing and Keanu Reeves was on hand to read for the character Don John (reprising the role he played in Kenneth Branagh's film version of the play.)  Also included in the incredible all-star cast were husband and wife Tom Hank and Rita Wilson (who led the production and played Dogberry and Margaret respectively), Bronson Pinchot (as Borachio), Jackson Browne (who performed live music and read for Balthasar), Dana Carvey (as Verges), Helen Hunt (as Beatrice), Ewan McGregor (as Benedick), Michael McKean (as Conrade), Julia Roberts (as Ursula), Martin Sheen (as Leonato) and Brent Spiner (as Don Pedro.)   Truly a most outstanding cast for a one-time only performance!

Wanna See the Missing Scenes from Bogus Journey?
Now you can let the "powers-that-be" know!

The most dedicated and determined Joe dude has decided to let the world know that he, along with many many other Bill & Ted fans, would like to see how Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey was originally made to be seen!  As we well know, many scenes from the original movie were omitted at the last minute because they were deemed "too scary for kids."  But these scenes really tied the plot of the film together and without them, while we're left with a very entertaining and excellent film, we're left feeling somehow heinously unfulfilled.  If you feel the same way and would like to encourage those who may have the missing footage to step forward and release it on DVD in a special edition release of the movie, then you should join the outstanding Facebook group which Joe has started!  Excellent!

I want to see the alternate scenes to 'Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey' Facebook Page

Keanu Asked About Third B&T at Oscars

As skyninger42 informed us on our Forums, MTV's Josh Horowitz cornered Keanu Reeves at the Oscars and posed the question at the forefront of fans minds . . . if they could green light the third Bill & Ted movie right then and there.   Keanu replied, "I'm trying!" to which Josh said with surprise, "Are you really?"  "Sure," Keanu smiled in his enigmatic way.   Josh Horowitz laughed that he couldn't tell if Keanu was joking or not and Keanu said, "I'm not."  Now we know that Keanu and Alex used to joke about doing a middle-aged version of Bill & Ted, and both have indicated that a third Bill & Ted wouldn't be out of the question at some point.  Ed and Chris also indicated on the special extra disc in the DVD box set that they wouldn't be opposed to doing a third Bill & Ted movie.  But still a lot of elements have to be right for it to happen, but this would indicate that there's still hope!

San Dimas Turns 50 in a Most Excellent Way!

San Dimas, that most excellent suburb in east Los Angeles county, kicked off a muy bueno fiesta celebration this past week to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their incorporation on June 28, 1960.  This year-long celebration has been dubbed, most appropriately, "An Excellent Adventure," as a nod toward the Bill & Ted movies which have brought attention to the city for the past 21 years.  For many years our fan club's P.O. Box was located in San Dimas, which entailed a forty mile round-trip drive from North Hollywood to pick up the mail once a week or so.  But going to San Dimas and seeing the Circle K across the street (even though the movies weren't actually filmed there) was always a lot of fun, so we have very fond memories of the place.  And we'd like to add our birthday greetings as well, and wish the city a most outstanding birthday!
