You're right, William Sadler made several appearances on the Tales from the Crypt series, but he's definitely playing Death in the same fashion as he did in Bogus Journey in this segment so the connection is pretty obvious. However if you go to the page linked below you'll see he did that same characterization of Death *before* Bogus Journey, so he'd been doing "Death" for a while.
