VH-1 LOVES THE 80's!
(BUT DO THEY LOVE B&T?)
This week VH-1 has been running a new
series entitled "I Love the 80's" (in the same spirit as the
BBC series of "I Love . . . " shows which reminisce about a
particular year). Whereas in England they put Bill and Ted in 1988, here
they've got the year correct and they're right up front in 1989 as the first
movie profiled for that episode. Unfortunately the segment only includes a
few clips from the film and some comments made by people who either didn't see
the movie or don't remember much about it (and most of them don't seem to even
particularly like the film! Somehow I don't think David Copperfield
could be Bill and Ted's biggest fan). Patton Oswalt (who is quite funny on
The King of Queens) joked that, being enough of a stoner himself, he
knows they are not likely to leave their room let alone travel in time . . .
maybe if he hadn't been enough of a stoner he might have realized that Bill and
Ted are NOT stoners (there are no drug references in the film
whatsoever!). Bill and Ted action figures and a phone booth were on hand
for the commentators to fiddle with but overall no one spoke very fondly of the
movie, which is a real shame since so far this series has been quite
entertaining for those of us who remember the 80's and, I imagine, for those who
are curious as to what the 80's were all about!

ALEX WINTER IS PEOPLE, TOO!
How excellent was it to find an interview with Alex
Winter in a recent issue of People (and thanks to the amazing Aimee babe for
alerting us to this fact!)?
The most outstanding Jo babe also found an article online
about Alex's new company, Hyena Films, which he has formed with director Alex
Halpern. To read this article on the ShootOnline website, click here.

SO YOU WANNA ROCK LIKE
BILL & TED?
A most excellent fan by the name of Chris contacted us
recently asking what the model and makes of the guitars were which Rufus
presented to Bill & Ted at the end of Excellent Adventure. We didn't
know, but directed them to the guitar consultant from the film. But Chris
managed to do some outstanding research and uncovered the following info we'd
like to share:
"I have researched into this and found, not
surprisingly, Bill and Ted's new guitars are very similar to the ones used by
Eddie Van Halen. They are Steinbergers, either GL or GT model, and can be
found at www.edroman.com and www.musicyo.com.
The best thing is, they're under $400!"
Thanks for the awesome info, Chris! Now you,
too, can rock out like Bill & Ted
(after all, they do get better!)

ALEX WINTER SPEAKS!
Another most-excellent fan named Isil referred us to this
interview with Alex Winter by Dark Horizons at https://www.darkhorizons.com/news10/alex.htm.
We know some of you have discussed this interview on the message boards, but
figured a lot of fans may not have seen it yet. It's an awesome interview,
so check it out! And thanks, Isil! You are most excellent to pass
this along!

SOMEONE'S BEEN DOING SOME
DRAWING SOMEWHERE!
We love it when you, the fans, pass along information for
us to share with fellow
Bill & Ted enthusiasts! This one would have slipped by us otherwise.
A fan sent
in a piece of artwork they'd found on the Internet for a Bill & Ted's
Excellent Adventure
DVD cover. Now we can't figure out if this is a legitimate release or a
bootleg or what,
but the artwork IS most excellent, so here's a link so you can check it out
yourselves: https://www.scottdecker.com/bill_n_ted.html.
It *says* it's a foreign release cover, but looks suspiciously strange with
no
Nelson, DEG or MGM logos, so if anyone has a clue, let us know!

WE ALWAYS KNEW TED'S DAD WOULD END UP AS AN IRRITABLE RECLUSE
Who was that irritable old coot Dr. Frasier Crane and his brother, Dr. Niles Crane, tried to prove was a murderer in a recent episode of Frasier? Sharp-eyed fans would have been quick to recognize none other than Hal Landon Jr. (formerly Captain Chet Logan, Ted's most authoritative dad) appearing in a hilarious guest spot! The episode, entitled "Death Trap" found the over-analytical brothers fretting over a skull they find under the floorboards of their old house. Hal Landon Jr. played the cranky owner of the house whom they suspect of murder, and he turned in a priceless performance.
Hal Landon Jr. is a very fine actor who has performed the part of Scrooge in the South Coast Repertory's production of A Christmas Carol every year for the past 22 years. As a founding artist of the SCR, Hal Landon Jr. has appeared in various productions over the years with the theatre group (he recently appeared as Alain in the SCR's production of The School for Wives and as S.P. in Getting Frankie Married and Afterwards). But his interpretation of Ebenezer Scrooge has become a classic tradition of the stage for Southern Californians living in and around Orange County. If you ever have a chance to see him perform this part, don't pass it up! There can be no doubt . . . Hal Landon Jr. has elevated grumpiness to an art!

HOW THEY MIGHT HAVE LOOKED!
Sorry there haven't been any updates in a while . . . hopefully we'll be
adding more photos to the website very soon! In the meantime, I was
surfing the web and came across some interesting character designs by an artist
in the Los Angeles area named Floro Dery. Apparently this dude has done a
lot of pre-production and production artwork for many animated series, and on
this particular page are some development drawings for the Bill & Ted's
Excellent Adventures animated series. Very interesting concept of our
favorite dudes in a loose style. The overall site is a bit complicated but
if you're a fan of cool artwork you might want to check it out by clicking here!

I LOVE 1988??
The most outstanding Charlotte has done it again! She's found an
online excerpt about Bill and Ted from the BBC series I Love (Insert
Appropriate Year Here) which focuses on the pop culture of a particular
year. Bill & Ted were featured for the year 1988 (this is somewhat
confusing, as the film was made in 1987 and released in the U.S. in early 1989 .
. . I don't think it was released in England before that, so why
1988?). In any case, writers Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson talk about the
characters (I have never heard the story about the McDonald's before!) and Alex
even comments in this short snippet from the series. Click here
to read about the show and view the clip at the BBC television online archives!

Bill & Ted in Halloween Parade?
No Way . . . Yes Way!
This isn't actually new news, but it's new to us, thanks to the
most excellent Charlotte who sent us this excerpt from a People
Magazine interview with Alex Winter from last year. We thought this
snippet was well worth sharing:
"And Winter, now 35, has never stopped being recognized by rabid fans as his movie alter ego, Bill. "To this day, no matter where I am in the world, it happens every day," he says.
Well, except once, on an autumn evening about two years ago, when he and Reeves met for a quiet dinner in New York City. Neither had paid much attention to the date, so when they walked out of the restaurant into a crowd of costumed people thronging the streets of lower Manhattan, they were thunderstruck. "We were like, 'Oh, s--t! It's Bill and Ted in the middle of the Halloween parade,' " remembers Winter, with a grin.
He and Reeves -- whom Winter still calls one of his closest friends -- waited for their cover to be blown. But then: "Nobody batted an eyelash. We just looked like two fat, older guys who were trying to be Bill and Ted," laughs Winter.
