John Karlsen has had a long acting career in Europe, appearing in mostly Italian films.  The castle scenes in Excellent Adventure were filmed in Italy so it makes sense they recruited some local talent for those related parts.

Film appearances for John Karlsen begin with The Naked Maja in 1959 and include such movies as It Happened in Athens, 8 1/2, Le Bambole, Crack in the World, The Amazing Doctor G, El Greco, The Christmas That Almost Wasn't, Galileo, Detective School Dropouts, Frankenstein Unbound and most recently The Order.
