Keanu is 38 now so that means he was 22 when Excellent Adventure was filmed (in early 1987) and around 26 in Bogus Journey. Alex is a year younger so he would have been 21 for Excellent Adventure and around 25 for Bogus Journey. As for their ages in the movie I always assumed they were juniors in high school, as the final scene was supposed to be them attending their prom but they don't seem to be going through the typical senior activities for graduates (or too overwhelmed that they're not going to graduate from high school at all). The script says they are 16 but doesn't specify which year of school they are in, so I just assume they were juniors and the prom was their junior prom. As to the reason for the big production oral report, you're right, that seems more like a senior type of test. Does anyone actually have oral tests in the auditorium in front of the school like that, I wonder? That was originally supposed to be in the classroom but got changed, too! Party on!
