I think you should either talk to your parents *if* they understand and believe that this girl is being beaten (if she is suffering from physical abuse, she needs to find an adult she can trust to talk to). If your parents don't believe her for some reason talk to them and find out why. This sounds like a very serious situation, so you should talk to your friend and try to steer her to either go to the police or contact a battered woman's shelter (I'm sure a local shelter could provide her with help or refer her to a youth hospice which helps abused teens). If she can contact a local shelter or helpline they may be able to explain to her better what her rights are, what options might be open to her and what the police procedures would be should she choose to press charges against her father for abuse. They would also be able to provide counseling which it sounds like she could really use at this point. She should not just run out into the world with no plan and no help, that could end up being disastrous; she could end up living on the streets which is never a good alternative and very dangerous. If you don't think your friend would want to contact a shelter herself, call a teen crisis hotline or a women's shelter yourself and ask them for advice, they may be able to give you some information that would help your friend. And please let us know what happens or feel free to e-mail me if you want to talk!
