I have no documentation of how that particular scene was done, but from memory I believe they have a close up of Ms. Wardroe which pans down to her as she unzips her front (that *is* Pam Grier), then cuts to a reaction shot of everyone else onstage with Ms. Wardroe in the foreground pulling off the outer layer in a kind of silhouette shot and then a shot of the "suit" hitting the floor which pans up to show Rufus. I'll have to take another look to see if there's anything else in there, but I don't think it was a complicated effect, and I don't believe George Carlin wore anything but a basic breakaway suit which only had to look good from the back. If you go to the Photo Galleries and check the "Missing Scene" photos for Bogus Journey there are some shots of a similar segment which was cut from the film where Evil Robot Bill was dressed as Evil Robot Ted and vice versa and there are some pics of those effects which would give you some good ideas of how the Ms. Wardroe / Rufus transition was likely done.
